Wake Up Your Career Consciousness
As a lifelong learner, I’ve discovered a powerful resource for raising not just my professional awareness, but for elevating the career consciousness of my clients. Curious? Then let’s talk TED Talks.
A former colleague, current grad student and genuine friend was overflowing with enthusiasm while telling me about a TED Talk she’d recently watched, Your Body Language Shapes Who You Are, by Amy Cuddy. While my gal pal was waxing poetic about how the speaker’s messages inspired her to take notice of how she moved, spoke and carried herself – and how this awareness was positively impacting her confidence, and in turn, her happiness – I could feel her energy and assurance pouring through the phone.
After viewing Amy Cuddy’s TED Talk myself, I knew I had to share with my clients, because it was about so much more than body language. It was about conscious professionalism (not to be confused with Gwyneth and Chris’s conscious uncoupling). By engaging in personal evaluation and increasing your self-awareness, you too can transform your experiences on the job and during interviews.
I’ve since become a bit of a TED Talk junkie, because they truly are wonderful, free tools to expand our personal and professional awareness and value. That’s why I encourage you to find inspiration and challenge your beliefs through subjects like Susan Cain’s The Power of Introverts, Dan Gilbert’s The Surprising Science of Happiness, Simon Sinek’s How Great Leaders Inspire Action, Brene Brown’s The Power of Vulnerability or snowboarder Amy Purdy’s, Living Beyond Limits.
The list of galvanizing presentations at TED.com is nearly endless, so go on and get inspired.
